Coaching through change
Change causes stress, whether it’s an unanticipated change or one we choose. Even changes which are positive and expected can be unsettling, such as a promotion, a re-organization or a company expansion. It is a loss of the familiar.
Leadership coaching can mitigate the impact of change. It helps teams navigate the journey through the uncertainty while, at the same time, improving work effectiveness and outcomes.
For leaders, focusing primarily on the tasks to be accomplished may seem like the best approach; however, there is a more powerful way. By acknowledging the impact of the change, giving team members the opportunity to express their feelings and better understand the reasons it was made, will help them move forward and think proactively about the upcoming transition. That leads naturally to defining and taking action steps to make it work.
Helping leaders understand the power of these types of coaching techniques is a focus of Leaders Who Coach when collaborating with organizations. It is also included in Leaders Who Coach® Essentials, a virtual series designed to maximize learning and application of coaching skills. These highly-interactive sessions can also be held in person for leadership groups inside a company or leaders can join those from other organizations in an open session.
